Montana Scores Big On Top 5 Trout Fishing Rivers In The U.S.
It’s always interesting to me when I scroll across social media and see someone’s “Top 5 this” or “Top 5 that.” Usually, I keep moving. But one caught my eye the other day: Top 5 Best Places to Catch Trout in the U.S. Okay, you’ve got my attention. The guy looked legit: standing on a river, fly rod in hand, trout hat on his head. That’s got to mean something, right? So, let’s see what he had to say.
TOP 5 Trout Rivers In The U.S.
#5 Bighorn River, MT
High fish counts, killer dry fly and nymphing water, plus some of the best hatches in the West. Solid pick.
#4 White River, Arkansas
Home to some absolute monster browns. We’re talking the kind of trout you brag about for decades.
#3 South Platte River, CO
Nicknamed the “Dream Stream.” Giant rainbows and browns, sight-fishing heaven, and some double-digit beasts lurking.
#2 Yellowstone National Park
One of the last places where you can target nearly every trout species in one pristine, jaw-dropping landscape.
#1 Madison River, MT
The famous 50-mile riffle. Grasshopper hatches like you wouldn’t believe and year-round quality fish.

Do I agree? Honestly, yeah, not a bad list. No shocker that Montana popped up twice. Kind of hard not to when we’re spoiled with rivers that produce like this. The comments were just as entertaining though. People chiming in with, “Hey, what about Idaho?!” or “Don’t forget Alaska!” And then of course the locals saying, “Good. Leave us off the list. We don’t want more people showing up.” Classic. What do you think of this fishy list? Let us know HERE.
