First responders in America are top-tier heroes who risk their lives every single day to make sure we stay safe and protected from harm.

But like with every professional, sometimes a few bad apples get in the bunch — like the Virginia firefighter who is now on administrative leave following a crash involving a fire engine he was driving and a parked car.

Thirty-four-year-old Petersburg firefighter Aaron Michael Hinspater was not at his best level of performance when he got behind the wheel of the firetruck on this day.

Hinspater crashed the truck into a parked car, which made his fellow firefighters suspicious of his sobriety level.

According to court documents, Hinspater was given a test for alcohol content in his system following the crash, and it came back .145 — about double the .08 legal level.

Authorities say the firefighter admitted to drinking 18 beers prior to his shift that day.

A witness who got a good look at the entire situation — including the sobriety test by police — also saw his behavior.

"He was struggling through it. They were doing the same thing over and over again because he couldn’t pass the first thing," they said.

Once his blood alcohol level was confirmed by a breathalyzer, Hinspater was arrested and booked for a DWI.

It is important to note that nobody was hurt in this situation — except Hinspater's resume, as it will likely be a little bit harder for him to attain a firefighter job again.
