Fireworks can be sold in Butte from June 27th until July 4th, a change that went into effect last year. Before last year, Butte followed the state law that dictated that fireworks can be sold from June 24th through July 5th.

Butte is one of the few cities to still allow the sale and use of fireworks inside city limits. Missoula and Billings have fireworks bans inside city limits. Bozeman just recently joined that list as well, with a ban on the sale and discharge of fireworks in the city.

A representative of Butte Silver-Bow sent me to the municipal code from the BSB website about the sale of fireworks. Code 15.10.060 Article 78 amended- sale of fireworks. Showing the restricted dates of sale, June 27-July 4. Also, December 29 through December 31 (unchanged). They stressed the idea of enjoying yourself over the fourth, but also being respectful of your neighbors.

Butte has a large number of Veterans and others struggling with PTSD, and this time of year can be incredibly difficult. Pets also have a really hard time around the fourth. Pets are more sensitive to loud noises, flashing lights and strong smells, making the 4th of July holiday very tough on our furry friends.

If you are going to celebrate (and you should!) Just think about everyone around you, set a ‘shut-off’ time of 10 pm on the nights leading up to the 3rd and 4th.
