Late Wednesday afternoon a person walking their dog at the Big Arm State Park reported to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office that they had discovered a human body located near Highway 93 within the park’s boundary.

Lake County deputies responded to the scene and determined that the individual has discovered a decomposed and partially skeletonized female body.

Several agencies were called to the scene, including the Lake County detectives, the County Coroner, with assistance from Flathead Tribal Police and the Montana Highway Patrol.

The female’s remains were transported to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula for an autopsy and possible identification.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Flathead Tribal Police are conducting a joint investigation into the woman’s death.

Both agencies are asking anyone who may be able to provide information to assist in the investigation to contact Detective Devon McCrea at 406-883-7324, or via email to dmccrea at lakemt dot gov.
