Bear Creek Saloon’s Famous Pig Races Start Friday
If your Memorial Day adventures take you to Red Lodge or Cody, do yourself and a favor and head over to Bear Creek while you're in the area. The famous Bear Creek Saloon & Steakhouse Pig Races are back for the 2025 season, and they are so much fun.
These speedy little piglets have been hitting the treadmill and track, and they're looking especially fast this year. Bear Creek Pig Races opening night is Friday, May 23rd. You can catch the racing action every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night through Labor Day weekend.

The bar opens at 4 pm, the dining room opens at 5 pm, and dinner reservations are recommended. While dinner is not required to enjoy the races, I don't know why you wouldn't... the food at Bear Creek Saloon is great. If you're not eating, order a beer, cocktail, or soft drink and take in the races.
The piglets race every 15 minutes or so, starting at 7 pm at "Bear Creek Downs" racetrack, located directly behind the restaurant and bar. There is ample seating and viewing area surrounding the track. My kids love choosing which pig will win, and those 18+ can place affordable bets to win cash.
Fast fun for education.
The Pig Races began after tourism in the area was hit hard by the Yellowstone Fire in 1988. Proceeds from the Bear Creek Pig Races have generated over $155,000 in scholarship money for Carbon County high school graduates.
The Bear Creek Saloon Pig Races have received national attention, including features on Good Morning America, Fuji TV in Japan, TNN, The Discovery Channel, Gourmet Magazine, and the Wall Street Journal.
