Legal Clash: Attorney General Knudsen Challenges Biden’s EPA Directive
The climate and environment have been the center of many discussions here in the Treasure State.
Currently, the state is facing one lawsuit centered around the environment.
On a federal level, Montana's Attorney General Knudsen isn't mincing words when it comes to his thoughts on President Biden's green agenda.
According to his latest press release, as far as he's concerned, the Biden administration is overstepping its bounds and making policy that will negatively impact Montanan's.
Why It Matters Globally
The U.S. already plays hardball with air quality standards - tougher than the EU and lightyears ahead of major polluters like China and India.
But if this EPA rule kicks in come May 2024, it could flip the script, putting 30 percent of U.S. counties on the wrong side of the law.
That means more red tape for new projects and less chance for job growth.
Economic Fallout
Beyond just America, this rule could mean bad news for the U.S. economy.
Big industry players, like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers, are worried.
They say that tightening the air quality standards could make companies think twice about investing in the U.S., opting instead for places with looser rules.
Who's in on It?
Knudsen's got some backup, rounding up attorneys general from all over the place.
Think Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, and a bunch more - they're all joining forces to take on this air quality rule.
Other State Involved
Attorney General Knudsen joined attorneys general from the following states in the Kentucky and West Virginia-led lawsuit: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah and Wyoming.
