Most of the time when we talk about videos in Yellowstone National Park, we're speaking of tourists doing crazy things in the park.

I recently ran across a video from earlier this year that's so interesting, so pure Yellowstone, and so NOT tourist related I just had to share.

The Grizzly and the Bison

Wide Open Spaces did a story about a spectacular video taken in the park earlier this year.  The article was published in March 2023, so I'd guess right around that time.

In the video, you can watch a Grizzly successfully attack and kill a Bison in about 5 minutes.

What Makes the Video Special?

The fight took place not too far from cars and tourists near the Grand Prismatic Overlook trail.

Michael Daus, owner of Jackson Hole Pop in Jackson Hole Wyoming,  caught the video while spending the day with his family in Yellowstone.  He took the video with his phone using zoom features.  Daus and his family live in Wyoming, so they knew to keep their distance while the battle went down.

"Having lived nearby for decades not minutes, we certainly don't want our actions or the appearance of our proximity to the animals to set any kind of bad example about approaching wildlife. The camera on this phone boasts a pretty amazing lens and zoom capabilities. So I was able to get all the shots from further than it may appear. The kids enjoyed watching safely from the sunroof of the car." - Michael Daus, from article in Wide Open Spaces

According to Wide Open Spaces, it's also quite something that there is only this video and not a few hundred of the others floating around the internet.

Here are some stills of the attack, and both video versions are below.
