A staple of the local DIY and home improvement community is shutting its doors.

After 12 years of business, Billings Hardware has announced it will close permanently. The locally owned store, known for its hyper-local customer service, will begin liquidating its entire inventory next week.

For Billings residents planning to shop the closeout discounts, timing is critical. Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming closure, the exact sale dates, and how the transition will impact local shoppers.

Store Closure and Liquidation Timeline

To prepare for the transition, the store is adjusting its operational hours next week.

Tuesday, June 9: CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC. The store will be completely closed on this day. Staff will be on-site strictly to mark down prices and prepare the entire inventory for liquidation.

Thursday, June 11: Liquidation Sale Opens. The official store-closing liquidation sale opens to the general public.

Final Day: There is no set closing date. The liquidation sale will run continuously until all remaining inventory, fixtures, and assets are sold out.

What Shoppers Can Expect at the Liquidation Sale

Hardware liquidation sales are notoriously fast-moving. Because inventory will not be restocked, local contractors and DIYers are expected to clear out high-value items quickly.

If you have upcoming summer landscaping, fencing, painting, or home renovation projects, organizers recommend arriving early in the sale cycle. Power tools, quality lumber, fasteners, and specialized plumbing or electrical components generally sell out within the first few days of a local hardware liquidation.

A Heavy Loss for the Billings Community

While the ownership group did not specify a reason for the sudden closure in their announcement, their farewell message to the Magic City was filled with gratitude.

Billings Hardware has been the kind of neighborhood spot where the staff knew your project by name and could find a single, obscure bolt in seconds.

In their final public statement, the Billings Hardware team thanked the community for allowing them into their homes, yards, and lives over the past 12 years.
