Felony DUI in Missoula: Injury Crash on Reserve Street
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On October 14, 2026, at approximately 2:46 p.m., a Missoula Police Department Officer was dispatched to an injury accident on North Reserve Street near the intersection of American Way. Dispatch advised that a vehicle had collided with a truck and the driver of the vehicle was unconscious. While the officer was en route, a Montana Highway Patrol Trooper arrived on scene and said the driver of the crash vehicle was in and out of consciousness.
When the officer arrived, he located a 1983 Subaru GL that had rear-ended a truck with a flatbed trailer. The front windshield of the Subaru was shattered, and it appeared the driver may have hit his head on the windshield. The officer spoke with other officers on scene who said the driver had shown signs of impairment.
The officer contacted the driver, who was later identified as 47-year-old Jason Ilkenhons, while he was being treated by members of the Missoula Fire Department (MFD). While MFD was speaking with Ilkenhons, the officer could smell the odor of alcohol emitting from Ilkenhons’s breath. Ilkenhons had slow and slurred speech and a dazed expression on his face.
Ambulance Journey: Memory Loss and Refusal
Then Ilkenhons walked on his own to the back of the ambulance. Once in the ambulance, the officer spoke further with Ilkenhons, who stated he could not remember the accident, denied taking any prescription medications, using marijuana, or recently consuming any alcohol. The officer followed the ambulance to St. Patrick Hospital.
After medical staff completed an initial evaluation and CT scan, the officer asked Ilkenhons to complete the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test as part of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs). Ilkenhons refused. Due to Ilkenhons being in pain and still receiving medical care, the officer did not ask Ilkenhons to complete any other SFST.
Instead, the officer requested Ilkenhons provide a preliminary breath test, but Ilkenhons refused. The officer requested a sample of Ilkenhons’s blood, but he again refused. The officer then applied for and obtained a search warrant for Ilkenhons’s blood. Two vials of Ilkenhons’s blood were taken and then subsequently sent to the Crime Lab for testing.

The officer then read Ilkenhons the Miranda Warning. Ilkenhons stated he still could not remember how the accident happened, but that his memory was beginning to come back to him. Ilkenhons said he had consumed two tall cans of alcoholic green tea earlier in the day at his house, but he could not recall when.
After being medically cleared, Ilkenhons was arrested and transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility. He is currently being charged with careless driving and felony DUI, which is a fourth or subsequent offense. According to court documents, he has three prior DUI convictions. His bond was set at $20,000.
