A wise friend of mine from Great Falls, Montana and I were talking about making repairs on vehicles-especially for those of us with teenage kids typically driving older cars. Get a code reader for the engine, try AI- artificial intelligence- to diagnose, and watch how to videos on YouTube.

So with extra time on my hands over the Christmas and New Years holidays, I started toying around with AI.

I don't know how it came up, but we were in Missoula and one of our sons asked me, "what is the safest neighborhood in Billings?" Probably because he works for a pizza joint. I said, "good question." Just for fun, I asked AI to see what answers I would get. I used ChatGPT and Grok, which is Elon Musk's AI platform that is now integrated into X, formerly known as Twitter.

What would AI say is the safest neighborhood in Missoula, Kalispell, Bozeman, Great Falls etc?

Here's basically what ChatGPT said is the safest neighborhood in Billings: (and notice how it used one of our sister radio station website as it's main source)

  • Baseline/Hesper: This area is often cited as one of the safest in Billings.
  • Rimrock Rd/Shiloh Rd: Known for its safety, this neighborhood is a popular choice among residents.
  • Broadview/Acton: This neighborhood is recognized for its low crime rates.
  • Soda Springs: Another area noted for its safety within the city.
  • Alkali Creek Rd/Sandstone Trl: This neighborhood is also considered to be among the safer parts of Billings.

Additionally, the West Shiloh area is recognized for its safety.

And here's basically what Grok said is the safest neighborhood in Billings:

  • Northwest Billings has the lowest crime rates, with a chance of being a victim of crime as low as 1 in 59, making it significantly safer than the east neighborhoods where the risk is much higher.

  • The Heights neighborhood is frequently mentioned as one of the safer areas, characterized by its residential nature and proximity to amenities like parks and schools.

  • The overall crime statistics indicate that crime rates are lower in the northwest compared to other areas, especially the central and eastern parts of the city.

CrimeGrade.org, DiscoveringMontana.com, and NeighborhoodScout.com were the sources cited by Grok.

On this question, I found ChatGPT to have a more complex answer, but on most of my other questions I threw at AI over the break I prefer the Grok AI platform if I had to choose.
