Wanna Race? ‘Motorized Cooler Bear Run’ in Yellowstone Park?
Growing up, I was a big fan of Yogi Bear cartoons. I was always cracking up at how obsessed Yogi was with stealing tourists' picnic baskets. He got pretty good at it too. Much like bears are in real life. In fact, some high-end coolers have made a pretty good profit out of building coolers that are "certified bear-proof." Not only that, coolers have recently evolved into including wheels and a motor. Making it easier for a tourist to transport the cooler. But, can they outrun a bear?
Last year, the masterminds behind the popular Facebook group, “Yellowstone National Park: Invasion of the Idiots,” created an imaginary event to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Yellowstone National Park. They dubbed it the “Motorized Cooler Bear Run.”
The goal of this motorized rally is for racers to ride a motorized cooler all the way from the North entrance of the park to the South entrance. All without getting eaten by a hungry bear. Seems legit, right?
The event is clearly fake and was created as a joke. Yet some people truly believed it was real and complained about it online.
According to Cowboy State Daily
One reader wondered if the event was scheduled to coincide with the park’s sesquicentennial celebration.
“I understand that Yellowstone is proud of its heritage, but this could be dangerous,” wrote Alicia Jessen. “Surely, there has to be a better way to raise money for the park than doing this. I hope wisdom prevails and they cancel this horrible idea.”
