Are you receiving basketball instead of Montana Talks? Here's why.

Some of you statewide listeners noticed that Montana Talks got substituted for the Montana State Women’s basketball in Puerto Rico. Here’s what you need to know, and how to continue to listen to Montana Talks.

The Lady Cats are playing in Puerto Rico this week for the Puerto Rico Classic. Yesterday, they played the Presbyterian Blue Hose, a Big South college in Clinton, South Carolina.

The Cats had the lead after 1, and they didn’t let it go through the final horn, winning 57-40 in the Sovereign State. Marah Dykstra led in scoring for the Cats, putting up 15 points on 4-10 from the floor and a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe. Marah was also second in line for rebounds, only one shy of Katelynn Martin who had 7.

As a team the Cats shot 6-19 from deep, hitting the 30% mark. They were well-rounded offensively, with 22 points in the paint and 17 from the mid-range adding to their 18 from behind the arc. Defensively Montana State held the Blue Hose to just 40 total points on 33% shooting, forcing 18 turnovers and amassing 30 total rebounds, as well as 16 points off of turnovers and 8 points from the fast break.

The Lady Cats have only 5 upperclassmen this year, including Lexi Deden from Missoula. Other Montana Natives include Teylee Chirrick from Roberts, who carried the Roberts Lady Rockets to their first State appearance in program history just a year ago. Teagan Erickson from Saco MT, won 2 state titles with 4 total podiums during her high school tenure. And also Brooke Berry from Billings, who was originally a University of New Mexico commit before coming back home to Bozeman.
