Absurd: Sensational Media Suggests Natives Will Be Deported
When cartels were killing people on the reservations and tribal leaders spoke out...the media downplayed/ignored. Now: they scream "PEOPLE ARE SCARED they'll be deported!" So predictable...
After we wrapped up our coverage from the SHOT Show down in Las Vegas, I was hanging out with some incredible Montanans and combat veterans. As great as the company was, I wanted to keep an eye on X for the latest news out of Washington. I was pleased to see a fellow combat veteran like Pete Hegseth get confirmed as Secretary of Defense (the E4 mafia got it done and carried the 04 across the finish line!).
While awaiting that news, I spotted this headline- 'People are scared': Fort Peck Tribal chair urges members to carry IDs to avoid deportation
Talk about sensationalism...
On Saturday, both of Montana's US Senators weighed in via X.
Senator Tim Sheehy (R-MT): "Recent reports that members of tribal nations are being targeted for deportation as part of the Trump Administration’s efforts to secure our border are false, misleading, and only serve to create unnecessary chaos. President Trump has announced no plans to deport Native Americans."
Senator Steve Daines (R-MT): "False news reports that Trump admin is targeting MT tribes for deportation are absurd. President Trump is not deporting Native Americans."
The NonStop Local TV stations had a better story putting this in context, which included this quote from Fort Belknap Indian Community President Jeffrey Stiffarm:
In light of current events it seems that there are reports being circulated that the Trump Administration is targeting tribes located in Montana for deportation.
I have been advised directly by Senator Daines that there is NO such plan in place; the rumors are unfounded and there is no need to panic. Please advise others that this is not the case.
Thank you for your understanding.
