I saw a post on Facebook that made my heart happy and I wanted to give this local dad a shout-out.

Austin's Barbershop is adjusting his business hours while his kid is playing football so that he can attend the games. Bravo. Excellent decision.

I'm currently in a stretch of about a dozen Sundays in a row where I'm spending the day watching my daughter play volleyball. I watch every weekend because they grow up fast. And then they are graduated and gone before you know it.

And apparently, Austin's customers' advice is being taken. They have told him that life is short.

For me, my mom was the parent who attended my stuff. She was there for every Christmas concert, play, and sporting event that I was part of. My dad was notoriously absent from most events. We talked about it before he died. He apologized for not coming to more things I was part of. And because of his regrets, he said he couldn't listen to Harry Chapin's "Cat's In The Cradle" without tearing up (which I still do whenever I hear it).

So, if any of you out there have Austin as your barber, his new hours will be Saturdays from 7 a.m. until 9 a.m. Then after the games he will open later that same day from 1 p.m.-3 p.m.

So, I give a shout-out to Austin's Barbershop in the heights for making a strong "dad move" and making your son your priority. It's the right thing to do.

I wish more parents would attend their kids' games. I understand that some jobs don't permit that time off. But as long as my daughter is the premier server in her division (I might be biased), you'll see me at her games.

Good job, Austin.
