Bridger Foothills Fire: Latest Info & Resources

As of 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning, here is what we know currently regarding the Bridger Foothills Fire that continues to burn in Bridger Canyon near Bozeman, Montana.

• Fire grew from 400 acres on Saturday morning to 7,000 acres by Saturday night, according to the United States Forest Service. The fire was reportedly up to 11,000 acres but has since been downsized to 7,000 acres.

• On Saturday over 100 firefighters were working the blaze. More firefighters are expected to arrive today and Monday. The forest service is running thin on resources as there are many other fires burning across the state of Montana.

• All missing people have been located. There were a number of residents of Gallatin Canyon who could not be located after the evacuation was called on Saturday afternoon. Sheriff Gootkin confirmed that all missing people are now accounted for.

• The fire has not reached Bridger Bowl. There were a number of erroneous posts on social media about the ski resort going up in flames. Sheriff Gootkin sent us the photo below of what Bridger Bowl looks like this morning.

• Please call 211 if you have questions about the fire, or want to know how you can help those fighting the fire. Please do not call 911 unless you are directly affected by the fire.

• Residents of Bridger Canyon were being allowed in until 11am on Sunday to check the status of their homes and animals.

• For those evacuated because of the fire, the Red Cross has opened an evacuation center at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 4383 Durston Road in Bozeman. Masks are required.

• Donations are being collected by the Salvation Army today between 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. for those impacted by the fire. Please just bring water, Gatorade, and single-serving packages of foods like granola bars and nuts. For more info about what you can donate reach out to the Salvation Army at 406.586.9051. FYI - the Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to help with distribution.

• The Gallatin County Commission has signed an emergency resolution banning open burning in the county effective immediately. The prohibition includes all burn barrels, field burning, recreational fires, and campfires. The ban is in effect until Sept. 8.

• Local, state and federal agencies will host a virtual public meeting to provide updates on the Bridger Foothills Fire. Representatives from Custer Gallatin National Forest, Montana DNRC, Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, Gallatin County Commission, Gallatin County Health Department and more will participate in the event on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 2:30 PM Mountain Time. The event will be live streamed on the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
