Eww: They May Install a “Portland Loo” in Great Falls, Montana
They want to install a Portland Loo? Eww. Yeah- in Great Falls, Montana they're talking about installing a Portland Loo. Remember when downtown Billings had this debate?
That's all I could think of when I first saw this headline in Great Falls Wednesday morning. A blog called The Electric had this headline:
City officials discuss whether to install a Portland Loo in downtown
What is a Portland Loo? Google AI says, "The Portland Loo is a single-occupancy public toilet designed by the city of Portland, Oregon...the Portland Loo is a free, modular, stand-alone restroom that's a cross between a traditional public restroom and a port-a-potty. It's made of heavy-gauge stainless steel, has a small footprint, and is designed to be easy to maintain."
I was broadcasting LIVE from Great Falls on Wednesday morning and had a great chat with Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter about his innovative school safety plan that he is already implementing across the county.
I forgot what we were talking about as we were just about to wrap up the show, but in the final minute or so before we ran out of time, but I said: by the way, have you heard about this Portland Loo they're trying to install in downtown Great Falls?
Sheriff Slaughter: "I don't think it's going to fly here. I know the mayor really well- he's my former undersheriff- and the city commissioners. And I don't think it's gonna fly here. You know, I think these are good intended people, and they've got great intentions. I think the downtown businesses, some of them may like it, because it's like, hey, they're not coming in our bathroom. That's good.
Aaron Flint: Yeah, but then you create a potential drug haven, and all sorts of other crimes are going to happen in there.
Sheriff Slaughter: What crimes are going to happen in there? It's not like you can install a camera in there. You can't. It's a bathroom. So it's like, kind of a- that's what makes me nervous.
Aaron Flint: I just wish I had heard that terminology, Portland Loo when Billings was debating it, because you just hear Portland Loo, and you hear Portland and you're like, Portland Loo....Ewww.
