For 31 years, Mick Holien was the ‘Voice of the Griz’ serving as the radio voice for the Lady Griz, then for football and men’s basketball.

Holien is retired now, but is facing difficult medical issues.

Holien’s friend Stacey Coulter described the needs that prompted a Go Fund Me page to help the popular radio personality.

“Over the last several years, Mick has declined in physical health due to his battle with MS,” said Coulter. “I went on a road trip with him a couple of years ago when he was still able to drive and get around on his scooter, but at this point he is home bound. He has caregivers who come and help him every day and he requires equipment to lift him out of his chair and he is basically immobile.”

Coulter said the effort is underway to obtain a van for Holien.

“I’m looking to get him a van and the necessary conversions to get him out of the house,” she said. “This would require conversions that would lift him out of a wheelchair into the passenger seat where a caregiver or a friend could drive him to various places where he could socialize and share his stories.”

Coulter provided details in the fundraising effort.

“The mechanism is a Go Fund Me Page that I started, and the goal is to raise $50,000 that would cover this expense,” she said. “The title of it is ‘Help Mick get a Vehicle’ and you can find it on Facebook, Twitter or just Google the fundraiser for Mick Holien.”

At the time of this interview about $7,000 had been raised.
