After the Republican rally in Belgrade on Monday, Montana U.S. Representative Greg Gianforte was able to snag a ride back to Washington, D.C. with Vice President Mike Pence and Montana Senator Steve Daines.

During the flight, Gianforte had another surprise.

“It was a treat,” said Gianforte. “He invited me to join him on Air Force Two, and both Senator Danes and I joined him. We had a good time with the Vice President flying back. And to top it all off, this was the highlight. He said ‘the President's flying back from California right now on Air Force One. Let's see if we can get him on the phone.’ So we're sitting on Air Force Two somewhere over the Midwest. The Vice President is speaking to the President in his office on Air Force Two and he says Greg, the President wants to speak to you. So I put on the headset and a microphone and here I am on Air Force Two talking to the President on Air Force One.”

One of the events this week that marked Gianforte’s travels was signing a pledge to ‘Back the Blue’ to support law enforcement throughout the country.

“I’ll defend the right of anyone to have free speech,” he said. “However, at the point where you actively and aggressively damage personal property or threaten police officers, we will bring the full force of law down on you. That’s not how any of us want to live. So, I did make this pledge, and as I travel around the state, I make it a point to thank all the men and women in uniform.”

Gianforte also laid down the gauntlet of how, as Governor, he would approach a pandemic like the one we are experiencing with COVID 19.

“As your next governor, we're going to adopt policies to keep the most vulnerable safe,” he said. “But we're going to rely on personal responsibility, not government mandates. I trust Montanans with their health and the health of their loved ones, rather than generating edicts from Helena.”

Gianforte is leaving the U.S. House of Representatives and is the Republican candidate for Governor and is running against the current Lieutenant Governor, Democrat Mike Cooney.
