Glendive GATE Show Highlights, Electric Riding Mower and More
We had a great time at the GATE Show in Glendive on Friday. Former State Sen. Steve Hinebauch (R-Wibaux) dropped in for an hour. Tim in Savage dropped by for a couple hours. And then we had a full lineup for our statewide hour from 9-10. (Full audio is below in the podcast)
First off, let me just say big congrats to one of our listeners- Tim in Savage. He listens in to the Breakfast Flakes, and joins us on Montana Talks through our station apps from all the way out in Savage on the Montana-North Dakota border. I call it MonDakistan. He is now down 90 pounds thanks to Billings Last Diet and the remote option they now have available! Check out the photo our producer Caden Bjornstad shared below.
You can also see a photo of me chatting on air with Cody and Ashley Fulton. Cody is the chair of the GATE Committee and he and Ashley did a great job once again. GATE stands for Glendive Agri Trade Exposition.
After the radio show was over, I walked around and checked out some of the booths. You can see the ag drone and some of the Rodeo Rigs below. Plus, I thought the electric riding lawn mower that C&B was showing off was pretty cool. That thing can mow a couple acres on a single charge and apparently is so quiet all you hear is the blade spinning.
What's going on in farm and ranch country in the Glendive area? Here's what MSU Extension Agent Gabrielle Sexton told us:
Gabby Sexton: "Soybeans has been a bigger thing since we lost the sugar beets, and that was kind of difficult this last year- we had some white mold that came in and wiped out a couple crops. So that's a battle. You've still got your wheat. We've got our sorghum, our sedan grasses, a good wheat. Peas, we see over here too, some dry land peas, which actually I think are gonna do fairly well, knock on wood, this year.
Some corn, some sunflowers, and so we've got a really good mix of crops over here, which is fun to see that we've got such a diversity as well to mix in with the cow calf pairs that are running through our county too."
