"Havre's 'skyline' was changed forever today as a grain elevator along Highway 2/First Street got taken down." That's what meteorologist Ryan Dennis shared on Facebook.

When you drive across Montana's Highway 2, or across the Hi Line as we call it- the grain elevators are some of most endearing structures you will come across. A symbol of the enduring strength of ag as the backbone of rural Montana's economy and lifestyle. And when you're driving Highway 2, it's also a symbol that a town with gas and grub is up ahead in the middle of your long drive.

Highway 2 and the overpass over the train tracks is one of my favorite landmarks in Havre. If you think it's flat- drive up north of town by the radio stations and you will get an incredible view of the valley and the mountains to the south.

Speaking of trains, I remember stopping in Havre as a kid when we would take Amtrak from Glasgow to Whitefish. Our friend Michael Foth took a trip to the train station in Havre back in 2023 and wrote about it here.

I had a great trip up to Havre a year ago. We did events at the IGA grocery store and Char's Family Diner and met a ton of great people. I also popped down to The Mint in Big Sandy to see friends before heading back to Havre for the Fusion Fight League MMA events up at the college.
