In town for the Folk Festival? Here are some can’t-miss places in Butte to eat.
The Montana Folk Festival is one of Butte's biggest events of the entire year. People from literally all over the world converge on the Mining City for one of the region's biggest and best music festivals. Are you one of the thousands who will be joining us from out of town? Here are a few of our picks for a quick bite or a sit-down meal.
PORK CHOP JOHN'S - 8 W. MERCURY
This one is a no-brainer. Famous for their Original Pork Chop Sandwiches, John's has been delighting customers in Uptown Butte since the early 1900s and their location on Mercury is just minutes away from all of the festival activities. John's pork chop sandwiches are incredible but if you want a real treat, try a double cheeseburger, loaded-deluxe.
OUR FAVORITE: Pork chop sandwich, loaded-deluxe with ham, egg and cheese.
BONANZA FREEZE - 1040 S. MONTANA
With temperatures in the 90s, there may be no better place in Butte than the Bonanza Freeze. Their desserts, from their sprinkled cones to their amazing banana splits are a Butte favorite and their food hits the spot every time. Reminiscent of a '50s hamburger stand with their walk-up window or drive-thru, the Bonanza Freeze has burgers that are to die for and incredible chili dogs.
OUR FAVORITE: Double cheeseburger with sour-cream and chive fries.
PEKIN NOODLE PARLOR - 117 S. MAIN
One of the oldest Chinese restaurants in America, the Pekin is a Butte staple with some of the best food in town. For generations, Butte has loved the Pekin's famous fried rice and chop suey and their fried pork is simply wonderful. But beware, the hot mustard does NOT mess around.
OUR FAVORITE: Pork fried rice and fried jumbo shrimp.
FREEWAY TAVERN - 2001 S. MONTANA
The iconic Freeway Tavern is famous for its association with the legendary Evel Knievel and for its behemoth Wop Chop sandwich. The Wop Chop is a huge pork chop sandwich that comes with just as big, deep-fried potatoes called Jo Jos that are made to be dipped in sour cream.
OUR FAVORITE: The Wop Chop. Are you kidding me?
CASSAGRANDA'S STEAKHOUSE - 801 UTAH AVENUE
Located in Butte's historic warehouse district, Cassagranda's has transformed itself from a once-bustling warehouse into one of Butte's most-bustling present day restaurants thanks to their tender, delicious steaks, wonderful pasta and even "sushi night". Reservations are recommended, (406) 734-4141.
