We get emails from various PR sources on a daily basis. Many of the press releases cite internet search data to determine trends or profiles, broken down by state. Most are somewhat interesting, but I frequently take them with a grain of salt.

It's not that I don't trust the internet. Eye roll. Data is data, right? But sometimes I question the results. For example, an article that our Townsquare Contributor Trent Flager wrote says Montana's favorite mobile app game is... Flappy Birds? Really?

Marketing, baby. Marketing.

Montana ranked #5 in the US for the best state to find a job in marketing, according to SEO website RankTracker.com. They analyzed job data to determine which states have the best job opportunities for marketing professionals. They cite Montana has 10,869 marketing manager and marketing executive job openings, equating to 985 per 100,000 people. Here are the top ten states for marketing pros looking for a gig:

Lots of jobs fall into the "marketing" category.

I typed "marketing manager" and "Billings" into Indeed.com today and got 35 results. Openings ran the gamut from what appears to be retail promotional set-up jobs, to bigger titles like Marketing Communications Director (for a nationwide corporation headquartered in Billings).

But can they find a place to live?

I know someone is reading this right now thinking, "stop telling people to move here!" and "locals can't afford it!" followed by thinly veiled "we hate out-of-staters." I know. I get it. And I'm not telling anyone to move to Montana. You can thank TV shows like Yellowstone for handling that priceless free marketing, leading to the latest spotlight on Big Sky Country. Before that, you can thank A River Runs Through It. Before that, you can credit retired NBC newsman Chet Huntley for creating Big Sky Resort in the 1970s. It's not like discovering Montana is a new thing.
