Meet the Montana Judge Who Stood for Freedom During COVID
This is the judge who stood for freedom and common sense during COVID-19, and he's running for the Montana Supreme Court. Meet Judge Dan Wilson from the Flathead Valley.
I first met Judge Dan Wilson in Malta, Montana. I was doing a LIVE statewide radio show with a bunch of local hunters. Judge Wilson was visiting family in Phillips County and talking about his campaign for Montana Supreme Court in "the forgotten corner" of the state- Northeast Montana.
It was great meeting Judge Wilson. He's down to earth, he's common sense, he's real Montana- but most importantly, he stood for freedom when we needed it more than ever. When former Democrat Gov. Steve Bullock (D-MT) was ordering local business owners to shut down, while giving the big box stores a pass- Judge Wilson is the guy who told the administration NO. He stood up for the Constitution and passed the test when our state was being tested.
During a recent event in Missoula, Judge Wilson says a lawyer who argued the other side of that case told the crowd how Judge Wilson made the right decision based on the evidence.
Judge Wilson: "He (Judge Wilson) followed the law and he made findings of fact based on the evidence. And that's what I've always maintained- if we follow the rule of law carefully and faithfully, then things will be right. You know, the ship of state won't be listing left or right. We'll always have our debates that are going to be argued in the legislature and in other forums, but as long as the court follows the law- the ship of state should sail on without listing either direction."
I told the judge my take on what is going on in this country right now, not just at the federal level, but in our state Supreme Court and in too many of our state district courts. They're weaponizing the government against We the People. They're weaponizing courts against we the people to push their partisan political agendas. We don't want to take control and get certain candidates elected so that we can weaponize the courts and the government against them. We're just saying we just want it to be fair. We just want fairness and justice. Why is that too much to ask for these days?
Judge Wilson: "It's not. And the message that I've heard most often when I'm out on the campaign trail, by my most ardent supporters- they say, look, we realize that we are not going to get every ruling out of you that we want, but what we know is that you will be fair and you will follow the law. And ultimately, I don't think you can get a higher compliment as a judge to have someone say- even when the chips are down, even when politics are sort of out of control, even when public opinion is full of strife and unhappiness, we want courts that just look at the law and say, this is what it says, this is what we're going to do."
The full audio of our chat with Judge Wilson can be heard in the 2nd half of the below podcast. Here is how to find out more about Judge Wilson on his website.
