You may have heard the news last week about a prominent Montana Democrat Party campaign treasurer charged with embezzling nearly $250,000`. Is this the smoking gun which shows that this is about much more than just one person in the Democrat Party?

As the Montana Sentinel and other outlets have reported, Abbey Lee Cook has been charged "with allegedly embezzling over $250,000 in funds from campaign and non-profit accounts across Montana." She was the treasurer for several Democrat party front groups and candidates like Zooey Zephyr out of Missoula.

Jesse Mullen was on the executive board for the Montana Democrat Party and also ran as a Democrat for Secretary of State last year. Check out what he had to say on X below.

Tyler Newcombe is a GOP political consultant who more recently served as Executive Director of the Montana GOP. He said this in response to the scandal: “Let’s start with the headline: The Democratic Party of Montana’s own treasurer was just arrested for wire fraud. Not a volunteer, not some staffer — the person responsible for handling their money. That’s not just embarrassing. That’s criminal.”

He says this scandal is a symptom of a bigger scandal in the Democrat Party. “This scandal is just the latest chapter in a much longer story — a party that has completely lost its way, both morally and organizationally. The Montana Democrats have been hemorrhaging credibility for years, and now we know they’re hemorrhaging donor money too — right into someone’s personal pocket.”

He also says Democrats should be asking where their money is going. “Montana Democrats are in a full-blown death spiral. Between the theft, the failed campaigns, and the collapsing fundraising, this isn’t just a bad week — this is systemic failure.”
