Montanans are one step closer to getting significant income tax relief. We spoke with Speaker of the House Brandon Ler (R-Savage) Wednesday morning, and he said he believes the governor will sign the bill into law.

According to a press release from the GOP majority in the State Senate, House Bill 337, sponsored by Speaker Brandon Ler, R-Savage, includes a variety of measures to ease the burden on Montana taxpayers. The bill raises the income threshold for the higher income tax rate, meaning more Montanans will pay the lower 4.7% rate, and reduces the higher rate from 5.9% to 5.65%. In addition to the tax rate adjustments, HB 337 also raises the earned income tax credit from 10% to 20%.

Speaker Ler: “Montanans work hard for their money, and HB 337 ensures they keep more of it – now and in the future. HB 337 delivers real, meaningful income tax relief for working families across our state.”
I personally preferred the Governor's plan with across the board income tax cuts, however it seems like Speaker Ler's proposal is a compromise between the Governor's proposal and what Republicans in the state senate had been pushing. Will the governor sign the income tax relief bill?
Aaron Flint: "What are you hearing from the governor? Do you think the governor will sign it, even though it's a little different from his income tax relief plan?"
Speaker Ler: "I have talked with the governor, had quite a few meetings with him, and yes, they will get signed."

LOOK: Things from the year you were born that don't exist anymore

The iconic (and at times silly) toys, technologies, and electronics have been usurped since their grand entrance, either by advances in technology or breakthroughs in common sense. See how many things on this list trigger childhood memories—and which ones were here and gone so fast you missed them entirely.
