Montana’s ‘Top Cop’ Opposes Defunding of Police Departments

Montana Attorney General Tim Fox has come out strongly opposed to the newly popular call to defund police departments around the country, but specifically in Montana.

Fox said this week that he believes the movement is not organic, but is being manipulated by those who oppose any and all law enforcement.

“A lot of it is actually orchestrated,” said Fox. I see now that the City of Great Falls commissioners are receiving canned and pre-written mass emails from out of state that are actually tailored to Montana circumstances calling for defunding of local Montana police departments. The whole thing is really an orchestrated attempt to cause chaos for political purposes.”

Fox posed a possible scenario.

“Imagine someone in need, perhaps someone undergoing domestic abuse, some being robbed or assaulted and called 9-1-1,” he said. “Who would come running to help them?” he asked rhetorically.

Fox said as the state’s ‘top cop’ and head of the State Department of Justice, he stands by all Montana law enforcement agencies.

“I want to raise a steady hand in support of Montana law enforcement in particular and across the nation,” he said. “Nobody one hates a bad cop more than a good cop and certainly our circumstances here in Montana are such that we have the best of the best.”

Fox said as the head of the Montana Department of Justice, he takes pride in all the agencies under his command.

“My office runs the Montana Law Enforcement Academy, the Montana Peace Officers and Standards and Training Council under our roof as well, and of course the Montana Highway Patrol and the Division of Criminal Investigation are all under the umbrella of the Montana Department of Justice,” he said. “My commitment will be that they will receive the best and highest standards of training to make sure that they are protecting rights, lives and property of all, and that’s the way to respond to the tragic circumstances we saw in Minnesota, not t call for ridiculous things like the defunding of law enforcement offices.”

Fox recently lost the Republican primary election for governor to Congressman Greg Gianforte.
