My wife Jessica and I stopped in at Costco in Billings over the weekend to get a few things and there were no eggs- at Costco. The Big Sky Business Journal's Evelyn Pyburn tells us what is happening.

That's right- no eggs. You could get the boxes of egg whites, though. So I asked Evelyn, what have you been reading about the price of eggs? (Click here for an AP story on the topic)

Evelyn Pyburn: "Well, I guess the average price is up around seven to $8, and I was going to say, well, you can find them less expensive here, and maybe you can, but a quick look at some of the ads says, no, thir $7 a dozen, and oftentimes even at that, they only let you buy a couple dozen or something, so they're pretty much limited. But the problem, I mean, the scary thing is, is it doesn't seem like there's going to be any quick turnaround on that, because the Asian or the avian flu is killing off the chicken flocks has mutated, and it's still going rampant, and it's even killing the younger birds that they were raising to replace those that have already succumbed to the flu. And so it's just a problem that is kind of running wild yet as they try to get it under control."

Aaron Flint: "So that's why the price eggs is up. The avian bird flu, and then under the Biden administration they killed 10s of 1000s of the chickens to try to stop the bird flu. But then, then they bring in the younger replacement birds, and they get the bird flu still...

Of course, inflation under the Biden Administration was already driving up the cost of everything, and then you pile on the avian bird flu...and here we go.
