Ridiculously high shipping costs, not only in Billings. It’s all over.

I attempted to have my best friend send me some Colorado green chili. I miss my comfort food. After she called me back and told me it’ll cost $100 to ship 1 pint of green chili from Colorado to Montana, I told her, “Forget it. That’s insane. Keep it for yourself sister.” So she did.

TSM’s lovely account executive, Lacey Sullivan told me she tried to ship a package that usually cost her about $18, at FedEx on King Ave next to Best Buy. FedEx quoted her $36 and she was flabbergasted. It doubled??  Wow.

It gets worse for Billings residents.

Lacey had a gentleman in front of her who was attempting to ship a guitar to Florida.  FedEx quoted him in the $300 range. She overheard this man, who was quite shocked to find out the price to send a guitar. I mean $300 is a lot of dough.

Apparently, this dude ships guitars all the time all over the world.

At this point the man was angry. He told the clerk he can ship guitar from Europe to the US for $100. And that $300 is absolutely insane.

Yes it is the holidays and our postal and package delivery workers are very busy.

And we appreciate all that they do! From the truckers to postmen and everyone in between, it takes a full system to get mail around the world. But why the high shipping costs?

I called FedEx on King Ave to ask if the prices have gone up to ship packages.

I got an automated system guiding me, but I called UPS and all their shipping costs are going up. The reason?

Of course it's because of the pandemic...  Other factors that increase shipping rates include costs that add up in complex courier agreements, fuel surcharges, minimum package fees, value-added courier services, overhead costs, and variable parcel factors.

Yay for inflation. My biggest question is "How can businesses give free shipping??" I don't understand that.

Hang in there friends, if you have to wait to send a gift, then do that. If you can afford to send gifts, then do it! Hope you holiday season is a smooth one.
