Yellowstone Could Get 16"+ Snow and 50 MPH Winds Through Monday

Yellowstone National Park will continue to see very gusty winds along with a pretty good dump of snowfall until Monday evening.

There are various advisories across Montana for Monday, some of which last the entire day and others that expire before noon. Either way, falling snow and gusty winds are creating dangerous driving conditions. Safety is key.

Even if you'll be traveling around the outside of the park, be prepared for blowing and drifting snow and poor visibility. Remember that cell service is fairly spotty in those regions, so if you run into trouble your phone may not be much help.

According to the National Weather Service:

WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM MONDAY.
WHAT: Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 10 to 16 inches in southwestern areas; 4 to 8 inches in the north.
Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
WHERE...Yellowstone National Park.
WHEN...Until 5 PM Monday.
The steadiest and heaviest snow is expected through the morning Monday, then taper off during Monday afternoon.
IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult.
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

All the basics of vehicle safety apply here. If you must drive in the area during poor weather, be prepared. Check you tires and the safety kit. Water, snacks, a blanket and extra warm clothes are essential.

Our most important tip is to make sure all of your wipers are in good shape AND that you'll got plenty of cold weather wiper fluid. Poor weather makes for dirty windshields, and if you can see...you can't drive. Be careful out there and always take you time.
