I was making a pot of coffee Thursday morning when Mark Wilson asked me- what do you think Vice President JD Vance was doing in Dillon? Here's what I told him.

Mark Wilson is, of course, one of the Breakfast Flakes on the number one Cat Country radio station in Billings. His studio is down the hall from the Montana Talks studio.

I told Mark, this is pure speculation- but I bet he was down at the Matador Ranch which is now owned by Rupert Murdoch...and I also wonder if Elon Musk was there. I think he's been fly fishing down there in the Dillon area before.

I especially wondered if Elon Musk was down there since Elon was in the Missoula area last week, and VP Vance almost travelled to Missoula during that time. And then this morning, big news came out about Elon Musk saying how he went too far in his X posts critical of President Trump. So I wondered if maybe he and VP Vance were able to get together in Montana.

No one has confirmed if Elon Musk was there or not...but we can confirm that Vice President Vance and his wife travelled to the Matador Ranch in Dillon.

Montana's State Auditor James Brown helped the White House advance team put together the trip, and even got to drive some of the VP's staff down to his hometown of Dillon. (Brown's family first started ranching in the Dillon area back in 1882) Jim is featured in the photo above on the far left of the photo taken in front of Air Force Two on the tarmac in Butte.
