One of the most highly decorated limestone caverns in North America has a lot to say, through the voices of experts with a passion for the park.

The amazing geologic wonders and more at Montana's first and best-known state park come alive during another series of interpretive programs at Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park, with more interpretive programs scheduled through the end of June. The park’s Friday and Saturday evening events will each begin at 8:00 p.m. at the campground amphitheater and last about an hour. Guided hikes are planned, too.

FEATURED NARRATIONS

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks tells us that the schedules of activities include:

June 14: Songs of the Dawn Priests: Guest speaker Franco Littlelight uses storytelling, art, poetry, music and song to present the history of the Crow Tribe.

June 15: Night Skies at Lewis & Clark Caverns: This popular program is back to highlight the stories of the stars that you can see in the night skies over Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park.

June 21: Plants and Us: Guest speaker Robyn Klein will show live plant examples of some of the fascinating edible and medicinal plants of Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park, and  demonstrate how to make pressed plant cards.

June 22: Tick Talk: It’s tick season in Montana. Learn about these creatures we love to hate and how to venture forth safely in tick country.

INTERPRETIVE HIKES

A couple of guided hikes are still on the June calendar as well, starting from the main visitor center at 9:00 a.m. both Sundays:

June 16: Birds of a Feather Walk: Take an hour stroll through the campground and see how many feathered friends you can spot. Binoculars will be provided for anyone who needs them.

June 23: Flower Power: Sagebrush, grass and juniper only? Hardly! A closer look reveals the glorious wildflowers that are blooming right now. This 90-minute moderate hike gives you a new look at the colors of late-spring in southwestern Montana.

It's tourist season. If you have friends or family coming to visit and you've ended up being the activities director, the caverns are a great one to keep in mind. For more information about these events and others, you can call the park at 406-287-3541. Or you can visit their website.

Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park is about 15 miles southeast of Whitehall, along Montana Highway 2, just off Interstate 90.

LOOK: Cool Car Features We Kind of Miss

Kids these days don't know what they're missing out on! But hey, let's be real, some of those old car features were pretty awesome. Yeah, they might've been a bit risky and even tried to kill us, but they made our rides feel way cooler.
