MT Mountain Snow: 9″ Possible by Wednesday Morning
Another round of very cold temps, snow and gusty wind is invading Montana through Wednesday morning. The valleys are only supposed to get a few inches of snow out of the deal, but travel may still become sketchy during this advisory.
We all learned last Friday (across the state) that it only take a couple of inches to turn our highways into danger zones. An additional concern is the wind, with gusts in the 30 MPH range.

This snow will probably be much 'lighter' with less moisture content. That makes for good and bad news. Less chance of the dreaded "fall and freeze" creating the sheet ice, but a larger chance of very poor visibility...especially after dark.
According to the National Weather Service:
- WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM 8 PM MONDAY EVENING TO 5 AM WEDNESDAY.
- WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches at lower elevations, with 4 to 8 inches in the mountains.
- Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
- WHERE...Portions of central and southwest Montana.
- WHEN...From 8 PM this evening to 5 AM Wednesday.
- IMPACTS...Travel could be difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.
- Snowfall may begin rapidly Monday night, bringing a sudden reduction in visibility and rapid changes in road conditions.
- Slow down and use caution while traveling.
ALWAYS use your headlights while driving in inclement weather. Give more space in between cars and keep an eye out for semi trucks, who may drift more in the wind.
Want to check the MDT cameras? There are several to chose from across the state and are VERY helpful if you need to travel.
