With all that the Montana Shooting Sports Association (MSSA) has accomplished under Gary Marbut's tenure here in Montana, what is there left to do? A lot. Especially with the constantly evolving threat picture.

This Thursday in Helena, MSSA President Gary Marbut is going to hold a legislative update for members across the state that will also be attended by state lawmakers. This is a great opportunity for you to interact with your legislators and support pro gun and gun rights legislation.

Marbut joined me on the radio recently to give our listeners a quick overview of some of the bills MSSA is supporting. Here they are:

LC0653 College shooting sports; Sen. John Fuller
LC0875 Nondiscrimination in re firearms; Sen. Ken Bogner
LC0652 The cost of self-defense: Sen. Theresa Manzella
LC0874 Gun rights pending trial; Rep. George Nikolakakos

Once the bills are introduced now that the session is underway, they will have formal bill numbers.

Here's what Marbut had to say about LC0875 in particular.

Gary Marbut: "We're seeing some problems with discrimination about firearms cropping up in insurance and in finance in Montana, and the Montana Constitution prohibits discrimination based on political views and stuff like that. And so we want to be clear that people who are exercising the right to keep their arms don't get snared up in any discrimination by the insurance industry or the finance industry. So we're seeing, for example, small businesses being told by their insurance carrier that if you don't ban guns at your your business, we're going to drop your insurance. Well, that is very discriminatory, so we want to prevent that."

Here's the details on the legislative reception, according to the MSSA: "MSSA's 2025 Legislative Reception will be held in the banquet room of the Jorgenson's Inn (now Best Western) in Helena on Thursday, January 9th.  Mark that on your calendar.  The reception will begin at 6 PM and last to about 8 PM, but we'd like you there earlier for a briefing session about the bills on the MSSA 2025 legislative agenda."

Marbut will also conduct a briefing session for attending MSSA Friends in Jorgenson's Mount Helena room from 3 to 5 PM, before the Reception.
