Former Interior Secretary and Congressman Ryan Zinke (R-MT01) helped strip the sale of public lands from the "Big Beautiful Bill" in the US House, and now- Montana's Senators helped block the effort in the US Senate.

I had a caller from Anaconda a few days ago ask me what was gonna happen with the effort to sell public lands. A provision allowing for the sale of federal land in Utah and Nevada was included in the Senate draft of the "Big Beautiful Bill" despite being killed in the House package.

It got stripped from the House bill, I'm confident it will get stripped from the Senate bill as well. That's basically what I told him. That has now happened.

Montana's US Senators Steve Daines (R-MT) and Tim Sheehy (R-MT) posted the following video together from the steps of the capitol over the weekend.

Senator Daines: "I'm proud to stand here today with Tim Sheehy after we just killed the provision that would have sold off our public lands. This is something Senator Sheehy and I have stood resolutely opposed to. We were able to strike that provision from the big, beautiful bill. It's a great bill now that we've struck the sale of public land provision from it.

Senator Sheehy: "The entire Montana delegation has been united on this for the entire time. Representative Zinke, Troy Downing, myself, and Senator Daines have been united that this wasn't right for Montana. We're proud to fix it. Public lands belong in public hands. We're going to prevent the largest tax increase in American history with this bill, proud to get it done."
