Secretary of State sends Open Letter to Montana about Elections

Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen has sent an open letter to all Montanans on the subject of election integrity in the state.

In it, Jacobsen states that ‘the integrity Montana elections relies on citizen involvement throughout the voting process.’

After an article was published in Real Clear Investigations by John Lott of the Crime Research Center in Missoula about alleged voter fraud in the November 2020 election, Missoula County Elections Administrator Bradley Seaman told KGVO he had reached out to Secretary of State Jacobsen for a meeting to discuss ways to restore voter confidence.

Jacobsen, in her letter of April 15, listed six ways that her office would protect the integrity of elections:

By enhancing election transparency; by improving uniformity when processing ballots; providing broader access to election materials; evaluating processes and procedures related to envelopes; reviewing best practices and revising processes for determining the validity of a ballot; and requiring annual voter list maintenance through Senate Bill 170.

In addition, Jacobson wrote that her office will follow up to ensure that counties perform the required maintenance.
