Montana Senator Steve Daines spoke out on Monday on the issue of President Trump’s possible nomination of a new U.S. Supreme Court justice to replace the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

“With a vacancy now in the Supreme Court, we must fill it with a common sense conservative, who will protect our way of life,” said Daines. “I plan on doing everything, everything I can to support and confirm President Trump's nominee, but it's not going to be easy.”

Daines said Democrats in the Senate will do all they can to block any nominee President Trump might name.

“Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats have already promised that nothing, nothing is off the table to obstruct and delay the confirmation process until after the election,” he said. “We all saw what happened to Brett Kavanaugh. This will be unlike anything we've ever seen before. The liberal mob will stop at nothing to see this nominee defeated and we need to fight back now.”

Daines is running for reelection against the Democratic nominee, current Governor Steve Bullock.
