Video: CDR Zinke’s Montana Knife Tour on Capitol Hill
The knives, the Navy SEAL Memorabilia, the Montana memorabilia, and more...we got a behind the scenes tour of Congressman Ryan Zinke's (R-MT01) office on Capitol Hill while we were in town for President Trump's inauguration.
We get the opportunity to talk about the news and the big issues with Congressman Zinke all the time, but since we were in Washington for the inauguration- what an opportunity to get a personal tour of the former Trump Interior Secretary's office. A look behind the scenes.
He showed us the knife collection featuring every knife that he had during his 23 years as a US Navy SEAL. It included every knife he had since the first one he was issued in 1984. (My favorite was the V42, which was carried by the First Special Service during WWII. They trained in secret at Fort Harrison, Montana)
"Everyone's got their- I love me wall, trophy wall," Zinke told us. President Trump is highlighted. He's got the pens from the Great American Outdoors Act, President Teddy Roosevelt, and some of his childhood awards. Zinke played football for the Oregon Ducks, so of course that is featured on the wall.
I thought one of the coolest items was the SEAL Team Six gold team battle flag that he told us about.
What's his favorite item? He pointed to the bull elk mount on the wall that goes all the way back to former Montana Congressman Ron Marlenee of Scobey (R). It's passed down through Montana Congressmen Rick Hill, Denny Rehberg, Steve Daines, Greg Gianforte, and now Zinke.
Rep. Zinke: "Well, you know, every day I kind of look at the elk because it reminds me of a tradition in Montanam of how important hunting and fishing, and a passed down- a link between previous members and this, remember, Montana has had a lot of firsts. Why I'm the first SEAL in the Navy in the House. Montana also had the first female, which was Jeanette Rankin, a trailblazer in her own right. Montana's had a lot of history, and I think having stuff in the office that looks at that history of what's in the past and make sure you have a better future is important."
Here's the video of our tour of Congressman Zinke's office:
Plus, Congressman Zinke recorded a special video with us after the tour of his office for this one very important addition:
