Gallatin County Sheriff Search & Rescue crews located and transported a stranded hiker on Lone Peak on Thursday in Big Sky, Montana.

According to a press release, Gallatin County 911 received a call from Big Sky Ski Patrol about a hiker that was stranded on Lone Peak Thursday, June 23 at approximately 4:00 p.m.

Based on communication with the hiker, Big Sky Ski Patrol determined that the hiker needed to be transported off of the mountain. After accessing the situation, Big Sky Ski Patrol requested help from Gallatin County Sheriff Search & Rescue due to the difficult terrain and the location of the hiker.

Volunteers from the Big Sky section and Valley section GCSSAR responded to the call for help with assistance from Big Sky Ski Patrol and a Heli team.

With help from Big Sky Ski Patrol, the helicopter team was able to locate the hiker. The hiker was transported off of Lone Peak. Fortunately, the hiker was uninjured and required no further medical evaluation.

Montana's wilderness can be unforgiving, and it's very important to be aware of your surroundings and be prepared when planning to spend time outdoors. If possible, avoid putting yourself in compromising situations.
