Flip-Flop Flat Top Votes to Save Mayorkas at DHS

Say one thing, do another. Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) is saying tough things about securing the border, but his actions speak louder than his words. This is another reason why he has earned the nickname "flip-flop flat top."

On Wednesday afternoon, Tester voted to immediately dismiss the impeachment charges filed against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. This, after Tester was called out by Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Tuesday for running from the Senate chamber as the articles of impeachment were delivered to the Senate floor.

Senator Cruz: "You want to know how terrified the Democrats are of hearing the evidence? Everyone recognizes the single most endangered Democrat Senator on the ballot this year is Jon Tester from Montana. I don't know how many of the reporters were in the chamber for the reading of the articles, but Jon tester was standing on the floor before the managers arrived. As soon as the managers arrived, Tester turned and ran- presumably into the cloak room. And if you look at the Democrat side, virtually every Democrat was there, but Jon tester was nowhere to be found."

After the vote Wednesday, Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) criticized Senate Democrats for refusing to even hear the evidence and allow the trial to move forward. "Senate Democrats chose to sweep this crisis under the rug, ignore the Senate’s constitutional duty and deny the American people a trial into the impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas. Every Senate Democrat proved that they would rather turn a blind eye to the failures of President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas than hold them accountable for endangering the safety of the American people."

The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) pointed out how "this is the first time in history the Senate has outright dismissed Articles of Impeachment when the individual was alive and had not resigned."
